Shoprite (Supermarket) | |
| Shoprite is Africa's largest supermarket chain, with several outlets throughout Ghana's capital, Accra.
The Shoprite outlet at the Accra Mall, the largest of Shoprite's outlets in Accra. (January 2008)
Based in South Africa, Shoprite is now trading in 17 African countries with the opening of three outlets in Accra. The first outlet was opened in Community #1 at Tema, while Shoprite doubled it's outlets with it's giant store at the Accra Mall in northern Accra. In late 2009, it added a third outlet along the Mallam-Kasoa Highway near Mallam Junction in western Accra. Shoprite carries a huge inventory of supermarket items, many imported from western countries, and indeed, items that are often hard to source anywhere else in Ghana. This includes foodstuffs, beverages, frozen foods, and fresh produce. The fresh meat section is arguably the best of it's kind in Ghana, as is it's fantastic bakery/patisserie. (December 2008)
Shoprite also stocks variety goods, notably cleaning products, automotive consumables, toys, and a limited variety of kitchenware. The Shoprite outlets are open seven days a week, and generally trade into the night, although the outlets do close for public holidays in Ghana.
