Paga | |
| Paga is small town situated on the border of Ghana & Burkina Faso in Upper Eastern Region of Ghana.
Entering the border town of Paga from the south.
(February 2008)
Despite it's relatively small size as a town, Paga offers several interesting tourist attractions, the most well-known of which are the two sacred crocodile ponds (Chief's Pool & Zenga Pool) within the town limits. However, other tourist sites such as Pia's Palace, Achala village (aka "Al Hassan"), and the Pikworo slave camp (located 2km to the south-west of Paga) also enhance Paga's reputation as an excellent place to go on a day trip from Bolgatanga. Located approximately 30km from the Upper East Region capital, Bolgatanga, visiting Paga has become virtually obligatory for tourists who trek to the region's capital. ![]() The border checkpoint between Ghana & Burkina Faso at the far north of the town limits - beyond the gate is neighbouring country of Burkina Faso.
(February 2008)
Immediately north of the town limits is the border checkpoint between Ghana & Burkina Faso. While crossing into Burkina Faso will require a visa (which can be purchased at the checkpoint), experience shows that the guards are generally quite reasonable in allowing a visitor to cross the checkpoint in exchange for being 'dashed' (tip/bribe), although movements are generally restricted to within the line of sight of the checkpoint. ![]() Nile crocodiles resting on the banks of the Chief's Pond in Paga.
(February 2008)
While the area is popular to Ghanaian & foreign travellers, no organized tour exists, and as such, travellers would generally make their way to Paga from Bolgatanga, or from inside the borders of Burkina Faso.
